John 5:3b&4
3b “waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.”
Insights:
These liness are not included in some recent translations. They are not found in all of the oldest copies of John’s Gospel written in Greek. Translators don’t all agree with including them. Don’t let that take away confidence in the 99% that is not questioned 2.000 years after being written by John.
These lines seem to tell of:
v3 Mystical moving of pool water,
v4 Waiting for angel appearance,
v4 Healing for 1 lucky person.
Sounds like common thought today. Hoping for lottery wealth, lucky rabbit’s foot, or lucky hat, autograph, t-shirt, seat, etc.
God didn’t mean for this world to run on luck or chance, but on hard work, truthfulness & love.
Jesus came to provide mercy:
*Not mystery but God’s promise.
*Not by angels but thru His Son.
*Not for 1, but offered to all.
