RMN Champion Wrestler & Xtreme Pro 2019 Singlet Design Winner!
In his own words, as related by his mother, Annie Zucker.
RMN brings the best kids. I know I am wrestling the “best of the best” when we go to an RMN tournament.
My parents introduced me to wrestling when I was 4 years old. I have been wrestling since then. My dad is always in my corner as a coach with my other coaches; my mom has helped to build our program, Nevada Elite Wrestling. My dad is awesome. He is the guy that makes wrestling fun and not so serious. I love having him at my matches.
I want to wrestle at Virginia Tech University and become a paleontologist. I also will always continue to draw and make art. I designed a singlet titled “Jake, The Cancer Slaying Dragon.” Jake is named after my Uncle Jake. Kids love my singlet designs and I love designing them. I think I will keep designing custom singlets for kids in the future.
Coach Eddie Sorgani has been my coach for 4 years. I see Coach Sorgani almost every day. He’s the best. Coach not only teaches me about wrestling, but he also supports me in everything I do.
Coach Jeromy Mumm has supported me as long as I can remember. Coach Mumm teaches me advanced technique; even when he is not at a tournament, he is always following me on Track Wrestling, then calling me to talk about my matches.
My sister is my size and HATES practicing with me. My practice partners are the best. They have become my best friends. One of my partners is Lucas Forman. We put in a lot of extra work to help each other get better. I also have a lot of bigger and older kids that my coach lets me practice with. It is hard, but they help me get better.
Some of my losses have been the worst in the moment but have taught me the best lessons to get better. Hopefully, I will not make the same mistakes again. Also, I learned from Mike Malinconico, Rhino Wrestling (NJ) Head Coach, that as much as you think a loss matters to the rest of the world, it really doesn’t. It has helped me to get back up and work harder for my next matches. One match at a time.
I am an ‘A’ honors student and I love school. Wrestling helped me stay focused on my studies.
My uncle is a cancer doctor for kids, and I wanted to learn how to help those kids. I found out that the band, Imagine Dragons has a charity called The Tyler Robinson Foundation, so I wanted to help raise money for them. Last year, I used my art to sell cards to earn money to help. This year I decided to ask for people to donate $1 for every pin I get this season. So far, I have 50 pins and over 30 people donating $1 for every pin. I have raised about $1500 for Tyler Robinson Foundation … and the season isn’t over yet.
Wrestling has let me travel and be with my parents in really fun places, experiencing things that I would not have gotten to experience if I didn’t wrestle. I have met my best friends and I feel like I am a role model for the newer kids at the gym. Have fun! Wrestling is hard, but it is worth it. Every day I ask myself: “Did I do everything I could have done that day to get better?” If the answer is “yes,” I know I can tell myself that on the mat before a big competition. However, I would not want to be a ref … refs have a tough job.
I would never know how strong I am if it weren’t for wrestling. It has taught me that there is always something more I can do to get better every day. If it is school, art, wrestling … there is always something more that can be done to get better each day.
