Voted Overall Wrestler for 2016 at only 7 years old, Israel Borge is about to make his debut at Grand Canyon Nationals as he tackles the second leg of the Tri-State Belt. Even though he will be wrestling at the bottom of his weight class, his father says they aren’t worried about that hindering him. “He was able to double-bracket in two weights at Monster Match, both in the the 8 and under division and was successful taking first first in both,” says Borge’s father.
Borge is one of the most sought after competitors in the nation right now for his age division, but Borge’s father says he’s just like any other kid -- he gets on the mat and does what he needs to do and off the mat he just works on practicing and getting better. “Our focuses for Israel are that he glorifies God on and off the mat as well as staying humble and respectful on and off the mat,” says his father.
As far as his matches go while in Arizona, Borge’s father says there’s no one in particular that they’re worried about going up against; they’re just excited to get out there and see how far Borge can get and hopefully come out with a victory. If you happen to be at Grand Canyon Nationals on November 26th, watch out for this wrestling prodigy!
