GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado wrestler Jacob Seely is having a tremendous offseason. In May, he was crowned the 2016 UWW Junior National Champion in the 96 KG (211-lbs) and was a UWW Junior World Team Trials Runner-Up.
Seely's opportunities to compete on the national stage continue to roll in as he's been selected to wrestle in the Junior Pan American Championships for Team USA at 96 KG.
The Junior Pan Am Championship will be held June 10-12 in Barinas, Venezuela. Countries from around the world will send some of their top 18-20 year old competitors to wrestle in both Greco-Roman and Free Style.
"We are very happy to have Jacob represent our Nation and the University of Northern Colorado in the Junior Pan American Championship," head coach Troy Nickerson said. "This is a great opportunity for Jacob to show his skills on the world level and for our University to get some world level exposure."
Seely will start the tournament off in the Greco-Roman bracket on Friday, June 10 and then will hit the mat on Sunday, June 12 for the Free Style competition.
In 2014, Seeley's teammate Trey Andrews was also bestowed with the honor of representing Team USA in the Junior Pan Am Championships when they were held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Seely, a redshirt freshman from Grand Junction, Colorado will depart for Venezuela on June 7.
Coaches for Team USA will be Cary Kolat and Jason Loukides.
